Director Anita Aloisio
A documentary filmmaker by profession and Montrealer of Italian descent, Anita became increasingly interested in the role that culinary habits, specialities and traditions have as transmitters of cultural heritage. From this thought germinated the idea of creating an anecdotal narrative recipe book. Anita decided to focus on the virtually unknown southern Italian region of Basilicata, her father’s native land, giving birth to the Basilicata Secrets project. She journeyed Basilicata from coast to coast to discover the secret recipes of southern-Italian staple dishes.
